Before and after! As you may know, the NC Room suffered from some flooding last week after a hot water heater burst here at Pack. However, we're back in business with very little damage done to collections. We're very happy to report that nothing was a total loss. 💓 Thanks to our friends from other archives, museums, and libraries who came to the rescue to help us clean up our mess, and to many of our Friends of the North Carolina Room who pitched in for a work day yesterday. Save the date! On 11/9 and 11/23 The North Carolina Room is continuing our #communitydriven #archives work by working with the @buncombecounty Community Engagement Team to host our first ever series of #historyharvest events. The NC Room is already home to several collections that document the history of African Americans in #Asheville and Buncombe County but we can do more! But to accomplish our goals, we need your help! What can you do? 1. Reach out to your friends, family members, and community elders and let them know about the history harvest events. 2. Gather up photos, scrapbooks, business documents, and anything else that documents Black Asheville (or Buncombe County!) that you think should be preserved 3. Bring yourself, your materials and other people to @pack.memorial.library 11/9 and 11/23 from 1-2 for an "Ask your elders" Community Round Table and from 2-5 for a digitization event. We'll scan or take photos of your material so they can be preserved in our collection for public enjoyment and research, and give them back to you! We are just so darn #Proud 🌈 We found out this morning that @blueridgepride has approved a grant for the Friends of the North Carolina Room to help staff continue to process, display, and promote our #lgbtq🌈 archives!
