#OTD in 1925, founder of #Asheville's Bon Marche department store, Solomon Lipinsky, was interred with full masonic honors at @riverside_cemetery_nc. 📸: The Bon Marche store front ca. 1898 on S. #OTD in 1855, a 25 year old lawyer and future #NC Governor, Zebulon Vance, was elected a town commissioner in @cityofasheville. #OTD in 1898 the Hans Rees Tannery opened on Depot Street in what is now the #riverartsdistrict in West Asheville. The tannery operated until the 1950s and was one of the larger industrial operations in what was then, Asheville's industrial center. The North Carolina Room was luky enough to receive the gift of a huge Hans Rees Tannery collection.
