#FunFactFriday On this day in 1841, former Buncombe County Commissioner and Asheville Mayor, Thomas Walton Patton, was born. Patton was a businessman, civic leader, and a former slave owner and officer in the Confederate Army who later worked together with women and African Americans to establish schools and social programs in the years following the Civil War. Along with Isaac Dickson, he established a school for newly freed African Americans, and was a proponent of women's suffrage - hosting the first pro-suffrage meeting in Asheville at his home.
